CipherTrust Inc, the global market leader in messaging security, today announced new features within IronMail, the company's award-winning messaging security appliance, that can identify specific content in outgoing e-mail, according to customer parameters. With the enhancements, IronMail goes way beyond dictionary or key word checks on outgoing e-mail, providing a comprehensive solution to lock down sensitive corporate information and help ensure compliance with regulations regarding close control over enterprise content.

Included in IronMail are CipherTrust-engineered methods for matching outgoing e-mail text with existing corporate documents. These techniques satisfy a pressing need within companies, which is to stop sensitive and vital information from passing corporate electronic walls. Beyond trying to preserve the integrity of sensitive information, industry and government regulations dictate that companies exercise close control over many type of electronic data.

"CipherTrust's IronMail has always had content filtering for its outbound traffic, but content filters can only get you so far," said Paul Judge, CTO at CipherTrust. "Simply setting up a dictionary for watching outbound traffic is not enough. Simply scanning documents and watching for that content to be sent out is not enough. Users can manipulate the data. They can make changes to evade filters, whether intentional or not. Our new features understand this and provide the best and most comprehensive approach for monitoring outgoing content."

The new techniques for checking outgoing content evaluate a given set of corporate documents, and then apply certain checks to them, including:

• Fingerprinting: A sensitive document is decomposed into a series of hashes, and a collection of hashes is called a "fingerprint". IronMail checks for the fingerprints, which indicate content from the document has been copied into the e-mail message.

• Clustering: IronMail uses clustering to consider individual words within a sensitive document and to evaluate a message based on the frequency of the words and how they correlate to other words within a document.

• Adaptive lexical analysis: When scanning a sensitive document, IronMail completes a lexical analysis, noting the relationship between certain words, how often words are used. It can then apply this use this analysis on a message, and, if a message's analysis matches that of a sensitive document, the message is flagged.

In addition, IronMail can now allow for content filtering based on multiple dictionaries, including multi-lingual dictionaries. An administrator can check a given message against IronMail's HIPAA dictionary as well as dictionaries defining social security numbers, for example. The administrator can use Boolean expressions among the different dictionaries to be more precise or broad.

The IronMail enhancements recognise the ongoing critical role messaging security plays in regulatory compliance and adherence to corporate policy. CipherTrust has built a series of functions into IronMail to assist with compliance. CipherTrust's IronMail provides a user interface for corporate compliance officers, so that they, and not IT staff, can review suspicious flagged e-mails that might violate content parameters set by corporate policy. CipherTrust's compliance functionality has aided companies in meeting requirements of a variety of regulations, including HIPAA, GLBA and Sarbanes-Oxley.

With the introduction of version IronMail 6.5, CipherTrust provides the most comprehensive support for multiple languages – in the industry. Language support includes Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, German, French and Portuguese. Version 6.5 goes far beyond mere translation of the user interface. Language support includes customised dictionaries and content analysis, translated versions of all reports, rule and policy input in any supported language, complete language support of email "subject" which are relayed to the quarantine service, and much more.
